N25k: BENUE Deserves it

Image
"For the next six months, the average low-grade worker shall receive an additional Twenty-Five Thousand   Naira per month". That was a magnanimous declaration President Bola Tinubu made on Independence Day, to show his concern for the financial plight of his work force. For many audience, especially Civil Servants who heard the 25 thousand Naira pay bonus for six months, that is the most memorable point of the presidential speech. In my view, this gesture is applaudable and replicable in Benue State , considering that Benue workers are long overdue for a wage increase, and this is one of the  questions on their lips. Moreso, Benue Government shares the same political mission of good governance , equity and fairness with the Federal Government under the All Progressives Congress  ( APC) dispensation. So, if His Excellency   Hyacinth Alia's promises of enhanced welfare for Benue Civil Servants are for real, it ...

The sources which did not state whether the N60 million or any money demanded as ransom was paid or not said the Commissioner returned in good health He spent 10 days in captivity before freedom came his way. His release could be attributed to intensified security operations, spirited negotiations, as well as  prayers by individuals and groups. Staff of the Benue State Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism mounted concerted prayer sessions for the safe release of the Commissioner. Factional rivalry in BSU Alumni Association ends

Image
The Board of Trustees(BOT) of Benue State University Alumni Association(BSUAA) has quelled the rivalry and factions in the association . The Chairman of the BOT , Professor Charity Angya solved the jinx in a meeting with members of the association, in the Senate Chamber of Benue State University Makurdi. Two giants - Comrade Terungwa Vihimga and Comrade  Godwin Agbadu,  who had split and administered the Alumni, were deposed today.  While Comrade Terungwa reigned as the Elected , Comrade Agbadu ruled as the Caretaker President. The confusion was too much.  The activities of both factions brought no progress and plunged BSUAA in absolute disrepute. These comrades were always struggling, fighting, and opposing each other. During the meeting, two committees  were set, Transitional Committee and Electoral Committee , with the mandate of ensuring a smooth, free and fair election in December, thi...

FREE EDUCATION IN BENUE

Image
Yesterday, HIS EXCELLENCY, REV. FR. DR. HYACINTH IORMEM ALIA , THE EXECUTIVE GOVERNOR OF BENUE STATE, made his resounding speech on THE OCCASION OF THE 63RD ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION OF NIGERIA’S INDEPENDENCE   AT THE OLD BANQUET HALL, GOVERNMENT HOUSE, MAKURDI. A plethora of issues were talked about, but my attention was caught up on item 14 : " As we re-engineer and implement policies aimed at making Benue the envy of other states, we recognize the importance of a well-educated populace as a panacea to most of the challenges we face. It is in this light that, as part of long term palliatives for the removal of fuel subsidy, we have decided to pay for this year’s examination fees of all students in government approved public secondary schools in the state sitting for the West African Examination Council (WAEC) and National Examination Council (NECO) examinations respectively. This would also serve as a stimulant in creating a literate and proficient society which ensur...

Nigeria @63: Independent or dependent?

Image
Hurray!!! The Giant of Africa is 63 years having gained Independence from Britain on 1st October, 1960. At 63 years, the country is no longer a baby nation, and should have solved basic equations and joined ranks with Developed Nations  But, no, Nigeria seems to be crawling, not being able to address common challenges. Who would think that Naija will still be grappling with these issues below: Corruption and looting of money . It beats my imagination that political leaders prefer to steal and hide the Naira in pits, rooms, overhead tanks, in the bush and in foreign accounts. This is too bad. Poverty index has tripled leaving over half of the population extremely poor. Ordinary Nigerians can't afford the basics of life such as housing, decent education, good lifestyle. Inflation has skyrocketed in Nigeria . This has culminated into high cost of living and low standard of living. Insecurity of lives and property has multiplied geometrically. Te...
