Nigeria @63: Independent or dependent?
Hurray!!! The Giant of Africa is 63 years having gained Independence from Britain on 1st October, 1960.
At 63 years, the country is no longer a baby nation, and should have solved basic equations and joined ranks with Developed Nations
Who would think that Naija will still be grappling with these issues below:
Corruption and looting of money. It beats my imagination that political leaders prefer to steal and hide the Naira in pits, rooms, overhead tanks, in the bush and in foreign accounts.
Poverty index has tripled leaving over half of the population extremely poor. Ordinary Nigerians can't afford the basics of life such as housing, decent education, good lifestyle.
Inflation has skyrocketed in Nigeria. This has culminated into high cost of living and low standard of living.
Insecurity of lives and property has multiplied geometrically. Terrorist groups, bandits, kidnappers, fraudsters have found Nigeria as a thriving zone.
Poor infrastructure. Nigeria is perpetually struggling to provide electricity, roads are bad and not well networked. A burden too heavy to bear.
Disunity, religious intolerance nepotism and ethnic interests have bestride Nigeria. Everything in done on religious lines or ethnic sentiments.
These are not healthy for our growth
Malnutrition, starvation are still here with us in Nigeria. Most families can't afford decent meals.
The electoral process has not been standardized in Nigeria. Every time, we hear about rigging and legal cases related to election.
The hope of the common man A.K.A the Judiciary keeps compromising in their performances.
Let's not deceive ourselves. Nigeria is not yet serious about moving from grass to grace.
We all need to decisively change our attitudes towards making this country great.
I hope that at 64, we won't be crawling any more. Happy Independence.
