Beñue workers, avoid these practices and live well
Civil Servants are choicely selected and employed to work for and within the public domain. As such, they are expected to be noble ,civil, respectful and responsible at the same time honorable.
I have compiled a list of some things they should refrain from in order to live up to the expection society has of them.
1. Too much borrowing. Govt workforce should refrain from borrowing money in high proportion. Also, they should not buy much items on credit. If they must, they should borrow responsibly.
It is said that Borrow borrow make man rich, but I would rather advice that borrowing brings sorrows. Therefore, Workers should avoid sorrows.
2. Involvement in corruption. Workers should resist the temptation of taking bribe, giving bribe, grafting and general corrupt tendencies, so as to keep their hard earned reputations intact. Corruption does not make people wealthy, it makes them criminals.
Money is not everything, good reputation is most required.
3. Worrying about everything. Government workers need to avoid too much worries about when alerts will enter, when arrears will be paid. Others include house rent, school fees etc. Simply learn to live within your financial capabilities to avoid depression and I'll health.
4. Playing truancy. Civil Servants should try as much as possible to go to work and be diligent in their work. Truancy can create tension in the workplace between superior officers and subordinates, which may lead to disciplining or firing the worker concerned.
5. Keeping malice and fighting. They should learn to manage crises, reconcile and maintain cordial working relationships vertically and horizontally, keeping in mind that their working environments are their second homes.
6. Over relying on salary. Civil Servants should venture into farming or develop skills that will bring extra income. By doing so, over reliance on salaries will reduce, considering that salaries are never enough.
7. Not taking care of self. Workers should care about their mental health, feeding and fashion sense. They should learn to look good, feel good and live good. One way of caring for self is engaging in recreational activities that keep your spirit alive.
8. Avoid scandal. Government workers ought to avoid any act that would go viral in bad light. Avoid going to wrong places; don't drink to stupor; don't take things that belong to other.
They have a reputation to protect.
9. Having low self esteem. Workers should develop themselves and feel honorable about their jobs, and selves.
Even if they don't have trendy things, they should maintain optimism and high spirits in a decent way. Last on my list...
10. Not being in a good relationship with God. Civil Servants should be in good relationship with their maker, knowing that God will make things work for them in due course.
I hope someone will draw inspiration from these nuggets, live better and contribute to making our society a better one.
